Our Founder

Annette McNeely
Once upon a time a girl adopted an older husky.  His name was Oreo.  She changed his name to Reo by simply leaving the "o" off when talking to him.  He was OK with this.  The girl and the dog formed an incredible bond.  But he still started to eat her house.  Never having a husky before she didn't know what to do.  She took him to Greene Valley dog park often and that is where they met Carey Green and Dave Sanders along with  their huskies.  They told the girl that Reo needed something fun to do.   So they all got together a couple times a week to try out a new sport:  Dogsledding.  Other dogs and people saw them doing this and thought it was pretty cool.  This is how the Green Valley Dog Drivers were born.  When Reo was too old to pull he still harnessed up and ran beside the team.  Although Reo passed away physically, he still runs with us every time we hook up a team.

I'm Carey Green, one of the founders of GVDD. I'm one of the people who generally show up almost every week, one of the more serious competitors in the club. Please remember that we welcome everyone - serious competitors and casual mushers, too.

Pat Kane has a dog named Dakota that was sired from the dog on my right closest to the sled, his name is Kodiak Killer. Next to Kodiak is Czar. Czar is Dakota's Brother, son of Kodiak. These 2 are my wheel dogs. I count on them to control the sleds start, or in mushing terms, break the sled. They are also the muscle of the team. Czar is a regional weight pulling GOLD Medalist champion 3 years and going for his fourth year. Czars stats can be found on www.iwpa.net  Czar is a big soft cuddly sweetheart and my favorite. Kodiak is smaller but just as determined to please. He is very vocal and would rather curl up on the couch and be a lap dog for anyone who would have him.

The two lead dogs are Blizzard on my right, and Sally on my left. Blizzard is a rescue dog from a close friend that found him for us. He is a natural born leader that leads by growl and speed. The one that stands out from the crowd is Sally. She is a new breed of sled dog. Her lineage goes all the way to Europe from a famous breeder and dog sled champion named Egial Ellis. She is one part Alaskan Husky, 2 parts German Short Haired Pointer, commonly known as the Hound Dog Mix. Sally leads by example. When all three Huskies are slowing down Sally is still banging away at her harness pulling the team and the sled to her pace. She is definitely our pace setter.

This is Blazer with his best friend and occasional musher Pat.

Now there's an unbeatable team!

This is me (Greg Fasshauer) wearing an old RCMP buffalo winter coat – without the snow. I’m sure it’s warm, but also heavy! I’ve been with the group since the beginning. When I don’t mush or hang out with my dog I’m busy doing mathematics.
